Sprint Pantech PX-500 on Ubuntu Acer Aspire

Linux

I followed two tutorials to get my Sprint Pantech card to connect (sprint’s fucked up my billing address and shut off the service and they won’t let me create an account online from Firefox so…but the card still was able to dial out and give me the same error it does in Vista)

Thanks to: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=343989&highlight=sprint for this tutorial (I’ve copied only the parts that get Sprint working)

Ok so, first off plug in your card then run
dmesg
You’ll see a bunch of gibberish but your card should come up as /dev/ttyACM0
Then
sudo apt-get install wvdial
edit the config like so
sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf
(this is specifically for Sprint):

[Dialer Defaults]
Stupid Mode = on
Modem = /dev/ttyACM0
Baud = 921600
Init = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Phone = #777
Username = " "
Password = " "
Init1 = ATZ
ISDN = 0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Auto Reconnect = on
Carrier Check = no
[Dialer shh]
Init3 = ATM0
[Dialer pulse]
Dial Command = ATDP

Now you need to edit PPP:

sudo gedit /etc/ppp/peers/wvdial
and add to the bottom:

lcp-echo-failure 0
lcp-echo-interval 0

then run:
wvdial
I created a launcher and made a sprint icon to put on my panel…you also have to make sure you disable regular wireless first. Sprint Logo
